My Emotional Journey · Station Prelude

2 min read5 of 38Read it in the book · page 17

In a crowded city, with days passing at a fast pace, my life looked ordinary from the outside, but inside I knew things were not.

I always felt trapped between conflicting emotions and thoughts, stuck day after day in a whirl of anger, sadness and anxiety, without understanding the real reason behind them.

I could not express what I felt, and I did not know how to control the moments when emotions attacked me without warning. Every time I thought things were under control, I found myself in a new confrontation with myself: thoughts that would not stop attacking me, and feelings that swept me away.

One night, after a long day full of difficult situations, I sat in my room emotionally and mentally drained, as if the whole of life were pressing on my shoulders.

I stared at the ceiling for a long time searching for answers inside, in vain, and realised I needed a radical change, but I had no idea where to begin.

I began reading and searching for ways to understand my feelings and thoughts, and discovered that what I had been missing all those years was emotional intelligence: the ability to understand my emotions deeply and manage them in a healthy way.

I learned the techniques of cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), which helped me identify the negative thoughts pushing me towards the edge, and then dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), which helped me regulate my emotions and make calmer, more conscious decisions.

The journey was full of challenges, but with every day I regained control of my life. I learned to reframe my negative thoughts and to face my feelings with more awareness.

Anger no longer ruled me, and anxiety no longer governed my life; I learned to handle those feelings with strength and flexibility.

This is my story of the journey towards emotional balance and inner peace. In the pages that follow we will explore together how emotional intelligence and the techniques of CBT and DBT can transform our lives and help us overcome the greatest challenges.

Perhaps you will find in it what helps you reach the peace you have long been looking for.

In Today’s World

We now live among endless notifications, work messages that follow us into our bedrooms, and constant comparison on social media. This environment amplifies emotional reactions and shrinks the distance between feeling and acting to a single tap. Understanding and managing emotions has become a survival skill, not a luxury, and Islam anticipated this when it made restraining anger, forbearance and patience part of the believer’s character.
