Chapter 7
07Searching for Meaning and Purpose
As the months passed and life returned to some stability, I found myself thinking deeply about the meaning of life and the purpose I was pursuing. The crisis had shown me that life is short and that challenges can come at any moment without warning.
I began to ask: what real purpose should I pursue? And can I find a deeper meaning in everything I have been through?
The Deeper Purpose: Discovering Passion
During that period my daily routine no longer satisfied me. Work I once enjoyed felt like just another duty, and the relationships I cared about seemed shallow, as if something deeper was waiting to be discovered.
So I took time for myself, sat with my notebook and wrote about everything that had brought me happiness and contentment so far.
I discovered that my happiest moments were those in which I helped others: supporting a friend in need, or advising a colleague.
I realised my real passion was helping people in a deeper way, having a genuine effect on their lives and helping them overcome the emotional and psychological challenges I had been through myself.

Seeking Change
After this discovery I thought about how to turn my passion into a real goal. I decided on a bold step: to learn how to help others more professionally.
I looked for courses in emotional intelligence, psychotherapy and personal coaching; these fields were not just a career but a road to deeper meaning.
I studied them deeply over the following months, not only to become an expert, but to use that knowledge to help others reach the balance I had sought for so long.
Becoming a Coach
After a period of study and training I felt ready, and began offering courses and workshops on achieving emotional balance with the tools of CBT and DBT and on developing emotional intelligence. I had fears at first: would I be able to connect with people?
Would I convey my experience effectively? But once I started I found the connection easier than I expected, and felt that every challenge I had faced had prepared me for this moment.
In every workshop I shared the tools I had learned myself and spoke about my experience facing negative thoughts and regulating emotions, and I watched these tools change participants’ lives as emotional awareness began to grow within them.
Continuous Giving
Over time I began receiving invitations to speak at conferences and events on self-development and emotional intelligence, and my experience of facing crises inspired others. But what mattered most to me was the deep contentment I felt every time I helped someone.
My goal was no longer personal success alone, but to have a good effect on other people’s lives; that was the meaning I had been searching for all along.
The best of people are those most beneficial to people.
A New Beginning
At the end of this stage I sat once more on my balcony watching the familiar sunset, with a peace in my heart I had never known.
There was no more anxiety about the future and no confusion about life’s meaning; I had found my purpose, and I knew my life was full of challenges but also full of chances to learn and grow.
The journey was not over, but I was ready for whatever might come, because emotional balance is not a destination you reach and finish, but a continuous journey full of learning and surprises.
I smiled as I thought of everything I had been through; this was the end of one stage and the beginning of another, full of hope, giving and the true meaning of life.
In Today’s World
Many young people today look for “passion” in their career alone and move anxiously from job to job. In the Islamic view, meaning is wider: to make your work, relationships and skills an act of worship and a benefit to people through a sound intention, so that daily work itself becomes a road to meaning.
