A drawing from the story “The Village Arts Festival”

After the success of many small projects, Fawzooz and his team decided to organise a large arts festival showcasing artists from the village and neighbouring areas. To do it, he chose Scrum to ensure good organisation and effective delivery.

Initial assessment and planning

“At the festival, everyone was an artist.”

Assessing current processes. Fawzooz began by assessing how earlier projects had been managed, to identify strengths and weaknesses.

Setting goals. He set a goal to shorten preparation time and improve collaboration between teams, while keeping creative processes flexible.

Flexible Scrum dynamics

Assigning roles. Fawzooz made the festival director the Product Owner, took the Scrum Master role himself, and gave the creative team the design and production of the festival’s works.

Developing the tools. The team designed Scrum boards covering every detail the festival needed, from designs to promotional content.

Training and preparing the team

Scrum workshops. Fawzooz organised workshops to teach the team Scrum principles and practices.

Role-based training. He prepared specific training for each role to deepen understanding of tasks and responsibilities.

Running the Scrum events

Sprint planning. Fawzooz led Sprint planning sessions, insisting on realistic goals for each stage.

Daily Scrum. He introduced short daily meetings to follow up and clear any immediate obstacles.

Sprint review and retrospective. He held sessions to review completed work and discuss how to improve processes in the next Sprints.

Continuous improvement and scaling

Review and adapt. Fawzooz held regular reviews of how well Scrum was working and made adjustments based on team feedback and project results.

Scaling Scrum. He explored ways to extend Scrum as the team grew or projects became more complex.

Challenges and how they were overcome

Resistance to change. He addressed the team’s hesitation and helped them see the tangible benefits of Scrum.

Protecting creativity. Fawzooz kept task and project management flexible to preserve the team’s creative energy.

By following these steps, Fawzooz and his team made the festival a brilliant success, showing how Scrum can strengthen creative teams’ ability to produce high-quality work efficiently.
