Story 08 · The Village
8Evolving Scrum Practices

After the clear success of the arts festival and other creative projects, Fawzooz and his team saw the need to evolve their strategies to keep pace with their growing, more varied projects.
Strengthening collaboration through technology. Fawzooz led an initiative to explore and adopt new tools and platforms that ease effective communication and instant feedback, such as Microsoft Teams and Miro, to strengthen collaboration among team members working across time zones.
“A method that doesn’t change with the team dies.”
Scaling Scrum. Fawzooz and other team leads discussed strategies for extending Scrum across several creative departments in the organisation, while keeping each team flexible and independent.
Tailoring Scrum ceremonies to creative work. He adapted Scrum events to encourage creativity, such as turning the Sprint Review into interactive sessions where creative work was presented in engaging ways that invited constructive comments.
Using metrics to drive improvement. Fawzooz and his team defined key performance indicators suited to creative projects, such as audience response and resource efficiency, and used them to guide decisions and improve processes.
Combining design thinking with Scrum. Fawzooz wove design-thinking principles into everyday Scrum processes, helping the team define problems better, generate more creative ideas and speed up prototyping.
Challenges and how they were overcome
Coordination complexity. As teams grew, Fawzooz improved coordination tools and Scrum techniques to manage complex projects more effectively.
Innovation stagnation. He made sure to refresh Scrum practices regularly to spark creativity and avoid routines that could drain creative energy.
Through these strategies, Fawzooz not only strengthened his team’s capacity to innovate, but ensured continuous improvement of the village’s creative processes, raising the standard and impact of the projects produced.
