A drawing from the story “Give Thanks, and Flourish”

“Whoever wakes up secure in his home, healthy in his body, with food for his day, it is as if the whole world has been given to him.” This saying inspired Fawzooz to begin applying new strategies for happiness at the start of his day, adopting an approach of gratitude for his blessings. He began writing a daily gratitude list, noting each morning three things he was grateful for, whether blessings he saw as small or large, such as health and safety, family and work. As he applied these strategies, Fawzooz noticed a clear improvement in his overall mood and outlook on life. He found that focusing on the positives eased his stress and enriched his relationships. His sense of contentment and happiness grew, making him a warmer and more positive presence in his social circle. One lesson he drew was that happiness does not come only from big successes or radical life changes; it can spring from a deep appreciation of everyday blessings and enjoyment of life’s simple moments.

Fawzooz learned that small changes in thinking and behaviour, such as practising gratitude and thanks, can greatly improve the quality of life. At the close of the twenty-second day, he felt he had wrapped himself in contentment and gratitude, aware that happiness is a key pillar of life, just as Islamic teachings call for optimism and thankfulness as keys to a life full of peace and happiness.

“Daily gratitude for blessings small and large builds a solid foundation for happiness and contentment, and shows how constant appreciation of life can improve its quality and deepen our joy.”
