1Leave What Doesn’t Concern You

Fawzooz woke inspired by the Prophet’s saying, peace be upon him, which teaches us to focus on what truly concerns us and avoid being occupied by what brings no benefit. As the sun rose, he reflected on the many blessings God had poured upon him, guided by Qur’anic verses that call for reflection and gratitude. He decided to set his priorities according to what would bring the most benefit to him and to his community. Throughout the day, he applied the principle of attending only to what was essential, refusing to be swept along by worry over every small and large thing that came his way.
He spent time listening to others’ problems and trying to help them, but he learned to say “no” kindly when demands fell outside his priorities. By the end of the day, Fawzooz noticed a tangible improvement in how he managed his time and energy. He felt greater peace of mind and became better able to achieve and to make a positive difference in others’ lives. His relationships improved as he focused on meaningful interactions and moved away from the superficial. The experience taught him the value of simplicity and of focusing on life’s essentials.
“Focusing on what truly matters brings inner peace and contentment. When we move past worry over trivial things and focus on what is important, we find calm and happiness in our lives.”
He learned that letting go of worry over what doesn’t deserve it makes room for a more peaceful and meaningful life. Fawzooz understood that self-respect and inner peace spring from the ability to focus on what truly concerns us, and that this is the heart of the good life Islam encourages. At the close of the day he laid his head on his pillow, relaxed and reassured, knowing that chosen indifference is not negligence, but wisdom in choosing what deserves attention.
