A drawing from the story “Freeing the Mind from the Struggle for Control”

After a long journey exploring communication and deep relationships, Fawzooz began a new stage of personal growth by applying the strategies of modern psychotherapy, captivated by the idea that contentment and inner peace can be achieved by accepting what cannot be changed and focusing on what lies within our circle of control. As dawn broke that day, he sat quietly, contemplating the life around him with fresh eyes. He set about identifying the matters that deserved his attention and effort, drawing inspiration from the life of the Prophet and the teachings of Islam, which urge reflection and insight into God’s creation.

Fawzooz reordered his priorities, appreciating the great blessings and opportunities available to him, and took trust in God as his path to diligent work without worry or fear of the future. He began applying the principle of negative visualisation, contemplating possible misfortunes not to sink into despair, but to appreciate the safe life he was living and to strengthen himself against future shocks. He learned how to separate his feelings from his reactions to the events around him, which gave him a greater capacity for calm and reason.

“If you want inner peace and stability in your life, seek contentment with destiny, accept what cannot be changed, and be ready to face the future with confidence and optimism.”

Fawzooz’s life improved markedly; he found within himself greater happiness and contentment. He lived each day with a clear appreciation for simple things, knowing that true peace lies in the ability to live in the moment and connect with the essence of existence without excessive attachment to the passing pleasures of this world. At the close of the twenty-seventh day, he had gained a deep understanding of what he could control and what he could not, strengthening his inner peace and his contentment with life.
