A drawing from the story “Focus on What Matters Most”

Fawzooz went to his favourite spot for reflection and prayer, preparing to apply a new principle from his study and deep thinking about how to gain the most benefit from the least effort, a principle in keeping with seeking blessing in one’s work. With a sincere intention for the sake of God, he began evaluating the different areas of his life, from his work and relationships to his worship and charitable deeds. Guided by Islam’s teachings on excellence and mastery, he focused on the most productive work that leads to the greatest results and the greatest rewards. Applying the “80/20” principle, he found he could make great gains in his worship and work through fewer actions, using the principle as a path to excellence in worship and creativity in his profession. And by focusing on the relationships that held goodness and positive influence, he was able to invest his time and effort in what benefited him and his community.

Fawzooz’s efforts improved how he managed his time and money, allowing him to increase his worship and expand his good works, while also making him more effective at work and giving him more time with his family and in service of his community. He drew a precious lesson: focusing on the essentials and doing more of what is beneficial leads to a life rich in faith and achievement, and getting the most benefit from one’s effort is one of the secrets of a life beloved to God and His Messenger. With this understanding, Fawzooz strengthened productivity in his personal and professional life, following the Prophet’s way of seeking good and striving for it, believing that God blesses the little that is offered with a pure intention and a clean heart.

“Focusing effort on the most productive activities can lead to multiplied results and greater blessing, strengthened by a good intention and a dedication that pleases God and benefits the individual and the community.”
