4Connecting Gently

Fawzooz reflected on how to use the teachings of his faith to improve his communication with others. At the start of his day, he resolved to follow an approach that honoured those teachings, reminding himself of the importance of a kind word and a tender look, which count as charity, as the noble saying teaches. He decided to apply techniques such as the “flooding smile” and “sticky eyes”, which show interest and respect to the person he is speaking with.
He began applying these techniques in his interactions, relying on active listening and on rephrasing others’ words to show understanding and appreciation. In every meeting he made sure his smile reflected warmth and affection, and his gaze expressed appreciation and respect. Fawzooz found that these simple practices greatly affected his ability to build strong, meaningful relationships. People began responding to him with warmth and appreciation, which boosted his confidence and opened new doors in his professional and personal life.
“A sincere smile and a tender look are bridges that reach hearts before minds; effective communication depends on details that show respect and affection, laying the ground for deep and lasting relationships.”
Fawzooz concluded that small details in communication can make a big difference. He learned that every gesture and word can be a bridge to understanding and affection, and that generosity with a smile and a look opens people’s hearts before it opens doors. At the close of the seventeenth day, he realised that communication skills are not only tools for success at work and in social life, but means to a deeper spiritual and human connection, reflecting the heart of his faith’s teachings on how to treat people.
