Why creativity, and why now?
Every week I meet someone who tells me machines have made creativity cheap: ideas now arrive by the thousand, in seconds, on any screen. And yet I have rarely seen so many tired minds. We are surrounded by answers, and short of the quiet in which a real question takes shape.
This issue goes back to the beginning. Fawzooz, a curious young man in a small village, searches for his creativity with clay, a cooking pot and a notebook; then learns the methods that turn an idea into something useful to people; then finds the place, outside him and within, where ideas grow.
These stories first appeared in my books and in scattered episodes and posts. I have gathered them here by theme, and added at the end of each a couple of lines on how I see it today. Read slowly; the stories are short on purpose.
