6Designing the Workspace

1 min read8 of 13

A drawing: Fawzooz works at a computer by a window over the hills, with books and plants on the shelves

In a new stage of his career, Fawzooz turned his attention to improving his workspace, to boost creativity and innovation in his work across software engineering, information security and artificial intelligence. After studying best practices, he set out to make his space ideal for clearer thinking and greater productivity.

Bringing in nature and light. He arranged his desk to get the most natural light, and added plenty of indoor plants. He found this simple change was remarkably effective in lifting his mood and sharpening his focus.

“A simple change, but a powerful one for mood and focus.”

Choosing colours. He chose a palette that stimulates energy and creativity: light blue and green to support focus, and white for a sense of order and calm.

Organising resources. He arranged his tools in an orderly, accessible way, from computers to books on programming and security to AI development tools, so everything was within reach.

Personal expression. He added personal touches: chosen artworks, inspiring quotations on the walls, and mementos from conferences and workshops in his field. The space came to reflect who he was, and kept inspiring him.
