6Embracing Legal and Ethical Considerations

As the village’s projects expanded, Fawzooz found that his commitment to legal and ethical standards was not just a regulatory obligation but a strategic necessity for protecting the organisation and its clients.
Navigating legal compliance
“Ethics is not a constraint on creativity, but a foundation for trust.”
Data protection regulations. Since laws like the GDPR have a major impact on the creative industries, Fawzooz took it upon himself to obtain explicit consent for the use of personal data and to follow strict rules on how that data is managed.
Intellectual property law. He applied security controls that protect creative works from theft or unauthorised use, supporting the protection of intellectual property.
Contractual obligations. ISO 27001 practices helped the organisation meet its contractual information security obligations, building trust with clients and partners.
Ethical challenges in the creative industries
Confidentiality and privacy. He took care to maintain confidentiality, especially for projects involving sensitive data.
Transparency. He sought a balance between protecting information and being transparent about how data is handled.
Respecting ownership and creative rights. He ensured creative content was handled properly and the rights of original creators respected.
Putting ethics into practice
Ethical decision-making frameworks. Fawzooz introduced frameworks to help staff handle complex security and ethical dilemmas, so that decisions aligned with the organisation’s values and ethics.
Protecting whistleblowers. He fostered an open environment with strong whistleblower protections, so staff could report unethical or illegal practices without fear of retaliation.
By building these ethical practices into information security management, Fawzooz not only ensured compliance and protected the organisation’s integrity and reputation, but also supported creative industries where trust and credibility are essential to success.
