A drawing from the story “The Noble Qur’an and Guidance”

Having returned to prayer with a new spirit, Fawzooz felt something else was missing from his spiritual journey. He had recovered prayer as a way of connecting with God, but he knew the Qur’an is the book that guides a person in every part of life. The Qur’an had always been at the heart of Muslim life, but Fawzooz realised he hadn’t treated it as it deserved. He had read it on scattered occasions, without reflecting on its meanings or living among its verses. One night, after the evening prayer, he felt a strong desire to open the Qur’an. He sat in a quiet corner of his home and held it carefully. When he opened it, his eyes fell on a verse in Surat Al-Baqarah:

“And when My servants ask you about Me, indeed I am near. I respond to the call of the caller when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me and believe in Me, that they may be rightly guided.”

“The Qur’an is not just a book to be read, but a whole life.”

His eyes rested on this verse, and he read it again and again. He felt something in his heart soften, as if God were sending him a direct message. The verse wasn’t just words; it was a clear promise that God was near, and that the prayers he had been raising were not lost. In that moment he felt the Qur’an was not just a book to be read, but a personal message from God to every person, a guide by which to walk through life. Fawzooz began to reflect on the verses he read. There were deep meanings speaking to his heart and mind at once. He felt the Qur’an was speaking to him directly, as if every verse opened a new door to understanding himself and the world around him.

It was a moment of illumination: he realised the Qur’an isn’t for superficial reading, but a way of understanding life from a deeper perspective.

As the days passed, Fawzooz made reading the Qur’an a core part of his daily routine. He began each day by reading a few verses and reflecting on their meanings. The goal wasn’t to finish a chapter quickly, but to go deep into every word, asking himself how these verses could guide him in daily life.

Once, he read the verse:

“For indeed, with hardship comes ease.”

This verse came at a time when he was going through a difficult period at work, with challenges piling up and heavy pressure. But when he read it, he remembered that God has promised that with every hardship comes ease. It wasn’t just a theoretical reminder; it was a practical message. He felt that even in the darkest moments there is always hope, and light waiting after the dark. Fawzooz returned to the Qur’an whenever he felt lost or in need of guidance. It became his spiritual guide, not only in religious matters but in every part of his life. He found calm in it when he was anxious, and answers in it when he faced challenges.

When he read the stories of the prophets and the righteous, he felt they weren’t just historical tales, but lessons for daily life. The story of the Prophet Job, peace be upon him, inspired him with patience in the face of trials. The story of the Prophet Moses, peace be upon him, was a lesson in trusting God and in courage against injustice. The change Fawzooz felt wasn’t only about increasing his religious knowledge, but a deep change in his soul. He felt the Qur’an was teaching him how to be patient, how to be grateful, and how to rely on God in everything. He realised the Qur’an is not just a book for reading, but a whole life, giving a person the tools to live in peace and balance.

In moments of deep reflection, Fawzooz felt he was no longer just reading the Qur’an; it had become part of his life. He repeated the verses that inspired and guided him throughout the day, finding comfort in them when things grew hard. Every verse carried a new meaning for him, as if the Qur’an revealed new dimensions with each reading.

The Qur’an was the guide Fawzooz needed to continue his spiritual journey. It wasn’t an ancient text, but the light illuminating his path, the guide leading him toward inner peace and spiritual reassurance. He felt that with every day spent reading it, he drew a step closer to God, and found within himself the strength to face whatever life brought.
