SECTION 10
10Built-in operating mechanisms
Four mechanisms are built into UCSMM so that its rigour and business continuity reinforce each other. They govern how the weakest-link rule is applied, how the inventory is kept complete, how scores are verified, and how the model speaks the language of audit.
Compensating controls
SECURES · BALANCE WITHOUT HALTING INNOVATION
The weakest-link rule is applied through compensating controls. While a lagging dimension is being raised, business units keep a conditional fast track for low-risk models, backed by a documented, time-bound risk acceptance under senior-management oversight. Innovation continues, and accountability stays with a name.
Automated discovery
SECURES · A COMPLETE, LIVE INVENTORY
The Wave 1 inventory is built on automated discovery, not on individual memory. The model's policies are linked to AI security posture management (AI-SPM) or a cloud access security broker (CASB) that monitors API calls and network traffic, and access to AI services is enforced exclusively through single sign-on (SSO) — so no unregistered model can be used.
Evidence-based verification
SECURES · SCORES THAT CANNOT BE FLATTERED
The assessment is evidence-based verification, not a session of judgement. No dimension is scored above level 3 without live dashboards and performance indicators pulled automatically from systems — audit logs, attack and fraud reports — so every score rests on data that admits no interpretation.
Cross-mapping
SECURES · COMPLIANCE AS AN ALLY
A cross-mapping matrix translates every cognitive-security requirement into the language of traditional audit. The dimensions map directly to controls in ISO/IEC 42001:2023 (AI management system), and model drift is classified as a risk to data integrity under ISO/IEC 27001 — so auditors assess the model in terms they already use.
